Producing healthy cats is my primary goal. We provide full health guarantees on all our Pixie Bobs. I find it very important for the health of my cats, kittens, and children, that my pixie bobs are kept healthy and clean without the use of harsh chemicals. We pride ourselves in having a very clean, but stimulating environment for our kittens. We have never had any form of parasites other than fleas which we have only had twice in twenty years, but we never give our cats any preventative chemicals either internally or externally, we just don't let our cats out and keep the place clean enough that we don't have such problems. I feel much better about the health of my cats and my kids if our cats and kittens don't need to be exposed to the chemicals necessary to prevent parasites. I also find it important that kittens are raised by their mothers along side their human friends. All our kittens are naturally weaned by their mothers. Their mothers have full access to their little ones coming and going as they please anywhere in the house until the kittens are 12 weeks old. Kittens are raised in my bedroom when they are very small, but are taken out to visit with other members of the family in other parts of the house. When they reach about 8 weeks old, they start to wander and explore other parts of the house and start to sleep with other family members at will. By the time our kittens are 12 weeks old, they have experienced a wide range of environments and people and are very well adjusted to all aspects of home life. Kittens get two rounds of shots (killed vaccine) at 9 and 12 weeks as recommended by the American Veterinary Association. No Feline Leukemia shot is given because there is some evidence that PixieBobs are particularly sensitive to this shot. If your kitten is under 6 months of age when it leaves our home, it will still need a rabies shot when you first take it to the vet. I also do a stool check on each litter for parasites, infections or other things that might not be immediately apparent. This test has always come back negative and is recorred along with the shots received on the health record which comes with each kitten. All our pixie-bob kittens also come with full health guarantees, which provide for a full refund if anything is found wrong with your kitten at its first visit to the vet. Finally, also in the interest of protecting my children and their friends, and secondarily my furniture and house, I clip all my pixie bob cats' and PixieBob kittens' nails on a regular basis. I start clipping the kittens' nails at one month of age and do them every week. Adult cats only need to be clipped once every one or two months. All that is needed is a human fingernail clipper -- that does the trick. If a cat didn't grow up having it's nails clipped, it can be hard to impossible to get them used to it when they are older, but if it is done regularly from when they are very young, all four paws can be done in less than a minute. Some of my mine even roll over and purr when it's time to clip their nails. All these things are what make us stick out among pixie-bob breeders. Whether you want a show quality or a pet quality kitten, whether you want a bobtailed cat or one with a long tail, whether you want lynx tipped ears or not, whether you like dark spots or more subtle ones -- all are healthy, beautiful and at least of grand championship lines. |
